Giving is Receiving - project is a joint development cooperation project between the Christian schools of Espoo and Central Uusimaa (in Finland), which aims to help Malawian youth and children towards a better future.

More than half of Malawi's population (approx. 12 million) is under the age of 15. Schooling is far from a given for everyone and the chances of advancement in life are quite poor without education. We, the Giving is Receiving project team, want to help these children and young people achieve their dreams. We raise money through various events and donations so that we can pay the school fees of some children, purchase equipment for leisure ball games and build a center for young people where they can learn more and meet each other.

Malawi is one of the ten poorest countries in the world and is located in Central Africa, south of the Sahara. Its neighboring countries are Zambia, Tanzania, Mozambique and Zimbabwe. Malawi does not have a coastline, but instead it has over 600 km of Lake Malawi shoreline, which offers opportunities for both relaxation and fishing for local residents, which is one of the main livelihoods of the coastal residents. Malawi is 1/3 the size of Finland and is a country as long as Finland. In the north there is a cool highland, where in winter the temperature can drop very close to zero at night, even to zero. In the south, in the Shire River Valley, we are constantly in the heat, meaning that even in winter it is quite warm at night.

The landscape of Malawi is colored by small and slightly larger mountains (the highest peak is Mount Mulanje 3003 m). The trees have been almost completely cut down for firewood and erosion is therefore eating away at the land. The main industry is agriculture and the products are tobacco, tea and cane sugar.

There are many Chinese and Indians in the streets of the cities. Many traders are Muslims. However, Malawi is a Christian country with a Christian president. The country has been a bit restless at times. One of the presidents hid several million dollars of state funds in his own "closet" before he died suddenly of an illness. The country's economy is still very weak. Foreign aid plays a major role in the country's budget and therefore such abuses that freeze foreign aid are a disaster for the country's economy. At the moment, one euro has a large purchasing power, so our help is really meaningful!

Come and join us in building a better future for these wonderful, hard-working children and young people! :)

Best regards,

The leadership teams of the Giving is Receiving project
